Southern Cross is a company limited by guarantee operating as a not for profit, corporate organisation and was established as Shoalhaven Community Housing Scheme in 1983.
We merged with Eurobodalla Community Housing in 2008 and changed the name to Southern Cross Community Housing. In 2009, we merged again, this time with the Monaro Tenancy Scheme, and the change of name to Southern Cross Community Housing reflected the greater geographic areas
Our head office is in Nowra, and branch offices Ulladulla, Batemans Bay, and Cooma provide service in those areas.
Southern Cross manages social housing similar to the Department of Housing and is regulated by the Registrar of Community Housing in its operations. Southern Cross is registered as a Class 1 provider, meaning that it is a large organisation with the highest standard of performance.
Southern Cross also manages the Social Housing Subsidy Program, and an Affordable Housing Programs both funded by the New South Wales Government.
