Crisis Accommodation Project

Delivered in partnership with Shoalhaven Community Alliance member SAHSSI

In October 2015, the State Government responded to increasing community need across NSW by announcing new funding for crisis accommodation services that help victims escape domestic and family violence. This culminated in a $20 million funding injection being announced by the Minister for Family and Community Services Brad Hazzard and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Pru Goward. The additional $20 million is flexible and is designed to meet unmet local needs through:

• Providing expert and responsive 24/7 on-call services.
• Increasing beds through refuges renting nearby properties.
• Providing more crisis/emergency accommodation and temporary accommodation.

Shoalhaven Community Alliance member SAHSSI was awarded 3 years funding to service the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. The funding allowed the introduction of 24/7 on-call services to improve the access to services for women and children escaping domestic violence situations.

Southern Cross Housing purchased and upgraded an eleven room property for the purpose of hosting the service.
